Jack and I are not particularly pro-Valentine’s Day, but we are very much in favor of love notes and lovely letters; as a result, this particular mid-winter week can raise conflicting opinions for us. This year, though, we’ve gathered our Valentine’s energies for good. In the midst of my lettering practice, we discovered a stash […]

After New Years, we had finally gotten our house (almost) in order. Tools were still mostly in the apartment instead of the basement, but major pre-winter repairs were done, holiday things were stored away, pipes were fixed so cabinet doors can stay closed, cable was rerouted so we could move our internet setup out of […]
So much good internet, so little time. Before you clock out for the weekend, take a look at TYPE’s glasses inspired by famous typefaces, consider Bikeyface’s sales pitch for bicycles, watch Men Throwing Rocks With The Other Hand, ponder a plea to take a pass on passwords, take in the glory of Michael Allen’s Beardface, […]
We have not yet had too many exciting house projects to share. So far, aside from rectifying some heinous green paint, repairs and projects have addressed important things, but not pretty things or even remotely photogenic things. This project isn’t exciting or photogenic either—but our much-needed new trash cans were pretty exciting to us.

The checks that are currently popular on everything from pants to pillows also bring to mind two stark, geometric works from contemporary artists Hyo Kwon and Jannis Kounellis. We’re currently hard at work getting the second issue of Don’t Take Pictures ready to print—and she’s a beauty!—but today on the DTP blog, Kat Kiernan is sharing an interview with UJC discussing our process and the perks and pitfalls of designing for artists. As designers focusing on custom solutions and working from scratch, there are […]
Jack and I are both battling colds this week, staring bleary-eyed at magazine layouts and lettering—but last weekend we were in Providence for a 36-hour getaway. It’s been a while since we’ve taken a Big Trip, but occasionally we hop on the commuter rail (or, sometimes, our bikes) and head to Providence for a quick break. This time, […]
It’s Friday! (I think.) A few quick things to keep you cozy this weekend: get lost in Yusuke Oono’s absolutely breathtaking 360° papercut books, watch producers go from zero to beat in 10 minutes, marvel at the wonder that awaits with 3D printed candy, read the inaugural post of a promising series about being an artist […]
There’s something about this week; between the nor’easters and the polar vortexes and the Monday holidays, I’ve had a really tough time keeping track of the days. Today, for example, is apparently National Handwriting Day. (Thank you—again—for the heads up, Kelly!) No matter! We’re overdue on sharing our New Years invites and holiday cards regardless […]
