Paris-based Anastassia Elias has a diverse portfolio of collage, mixed media, paint and illustration works, all of which are lovely. What really caught my attention, though, is her miniature collage and papercut scenes – all created within empty toilet paper rolls.
I would love to know more about Elias’ process in constructing these scenes, but there is no doubt that the completed, backlit pieces look as if they sprouted from within the tube of their own accord, while someone was looking the other way. There is a delightful sense of whimsy upon spotting a tiny glimpse into another world, encapsulated within such a mundane object.
You should certainly take a look at Elias’ Behance profile, or browse through her full portfolio, but I’ve included a few more favorites from her toilet paper roll project below. What do you think? Do you find yourself entranced, as I was?
